Love Condoms strutted their stuff on the catwalk in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2015 during the city’s 5th annual fashion week when opening fashion designer and film director Aleksey Zalevskiy showed off his clothing collection with models that distributed Love Condoms to on-lookers.
The Autumn/Winter 2015 Ukraine Fashion Week was held during a time of political turmoil and revolutionary upheaval, making the mood of the show reflective. The show opened with the film Z Joke, directed by Zalevskiy. Surrealist and colorful dancing told the story of a virus that causes infertility. The film won “Best Director” and “Best Soundtrack” at the 17th annual Shanghai International Festival and portrayed messages similar to those of the HIV/AIDS movement.

Zalevskiy collaborated with AHF during the fashion week by having his models present, giving away 1,000 Love Condoms, and introducing AHF’s International Condom Day (ICD) festivities under the theme “Condoms are Cool.” AHF Ukraine’s 2015 ICD took place a month before the fashion show, and staff rallied together to distribute condoms to people on the streets of Odesa alongside condom mascots.
AHF began working with Zalevskiy in 2015, but his creative reign began in 1993 when he released his first collection. By 1997, his work was showing regularly at Ukrainian Fashion Week, earning him a seat on the Ukrainian Fashion Council in 2004. Zalevskiy expanded his work into philanthropy in 2006 when he began working on a charity project, “Fashion Aid,” providing assistance to people with AIDS in Ukraine.
AHF Ukraine was founded in 2009 and currently serves 79,076 clients through HIV/STI testing and treatment, high-level advocacy, a Girls Act program, a Food for Health program, and support groups for people living with HIV.
