“Lifesaver”: AHF’s Vibrant 2018 Pride Initiative

The 2018 Pride season marked the launch of the “Lifesaver” campaign, a vibrant and visually
striking initiative by AHF. Central to this campaign was the “Lifesaver” artwork depicting
a condom set against a vivid red background. The simplicity of the design was powerful, with the
condom adorned by six colorful stripes that mirrored the iconic rainbow flag.

By integrating the rainbow colors into the condom’s design, AHF effectively linked the
importance of safe sex practices with the spirit of Pride. The artwork not only promoted the use
of condoms as essential for health and safety but also highlighted them as symbols of pride and
solidarity within the LGBTQ+ community. This creative approach underscored AHF’s mission to
merge health advocacy with celebration, fostering unity and joy while
addressing crucial public health issues.

AHF took their message on the road, participating in Pride parades across the United States.
Massive “Lifesaver” buses, adorned with AHF staff and supporters, made appearances in eight
U.S. cities: Long Beach, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Houston, New York City, San Diego,
Atlanta, and Las Vegas. Additionally, the “Lifesaver” campaign extended its reach to Puerto Rico
Pride, spreading the message of safe sex and celebration even further.

In retrospect, the 2018 Pride season encapsulated AHF’s dedication to promoting safe sex while
also prioritizing celebration and joy. As we continue to celebrate Pride Month, we remember the
multifaceted nature of AHF: its commitment to health, advocacy, and vibrant community
engagement.
