Vote 2 End HIV: #BlackVotesMatter!

As the new voting season commences let’s flashback to August 6th, 2015, to a free concert held at the legendary Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. The concert which also functioned as a voter registration rally was hosted by AHF and the AHF Black AIDS Crisis Taskforce(ABACT) to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The concert/rally’s purpose was to bring awareness to the inequalities Blacks and Latinos face regarding health. The concert featured performances from iconic singer/actress Patti LaBelle, Grammy/Oscar–winning rapper/actor Common, a keynote address from Rev. Al Sharpton and a special performance by the Prancing Elites who were feature don the Oxygen channel’s reality show The Prancing Elites Project.

While there was a mass of celebrities and reality stars in attendance, the main showcase of the Vote 2 End HIV: #BlackVotesMatter! event was a plea for the mobilization of Black voters to actively participate in the 2016 election and demand the government allocate more resources to the prevention/care and treatment HIV/AIDS to help those most affected–Black and Latino communities.
