Celebrating Visibility and Joy: AHF’s Commitment to the Trans Community

In 2018, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) hosted a Transgender Day of Visibility event at Flaming Saddles in West Hollywood, bringing together members of the local LGBTQ+ community for a night of performance, solidarity, and celebration. The event was organized through AHF’s affinity groups, FLUX and Impulse, both of which focus on advocacy, health equity, and empowerment for LGBTQ+ individuals, especially those who are transgender or gender-nonconforming.

The evening featured drag performances, music, and community engagement in a space designed to be safe and affirming. Attendees packed the venue, waving rainbow flags and cheering performers—underscoring the event’s message: that trans visibility is not just about awareness, but also about support, celebration, and joy.

FLUX, a national division of AHF and founded in 2017, aims to raise the profile of trans and gender-diverse communities while addressing health disparities and promoting social justice. Impulse, also supported by AHF, engages LGBTQ+ individuals with health education, stigma reduction, and community building through events and digital campaigns.

The 2018 Flaming Saddles event exemplified the core mission of AHF’s advocacy work: to uplift marginalized communities by combining public health efforts with cultural visibility. For AHF and its affinity groups, events like this are an essential part of ensuring that transgender individuals are not only acknowledged—but respected and celebrated.

While the event took place in 2018, its message remains relevant. Visibility, when supported by health services, community outreach, and affirming spaces, can be a powerful driver of change.
