From Crisis to Care: A Look Back at AHF’s Riverside Expansion

In early 2019, AHF proudly opened a new Healthcare Center in Riverside, marking a major step forward in addressing the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic in California’s Inland Empire. This expansion was more than just a brick-and-mortar milestone — it was a commitment to accessible, compassionate care in a region where rates of new HIV diagnoses had been rising at an alarming pace.

At the time, Riverside and San Bernardino counties ranked among the areas in California with some of the highest HIV infection rates. Many residents in these communities faced barriers to care, including stigma, limited resources, and a lack of local providers. AHF responded by launching the Riverside Healthcare Center to meet people where they are, with a focus on high-quality, stigma-free services.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on February 6, 2019, bringing together local leaders, healthcare professionals, and AHF staff to tour the facility and learn about the services offered, making it not just an opening but a moment of connection and renewed commitment to care.

The clinic offered a full range of medical services for people living with HIV , including free testing, linkage to care, and access to lifesaving antiretroviral treatment. For many, AHF’s Riverside Healthcare Center became a safe and supportive space to take control of their health.

Now, years later, this throwback reminds us why local investment in public health matters. AHF’s commitment to underserved communities continues to drive our growth, ensuring no one is left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

As we reflect on this pivotal moment from 2019, it serves as a lasting example of how compassion, care, and community-based healthcare can transform lives — one city, one clinic, and one patient at a time.
